Heavy Traffic Class 5 Licence

A Class 5 is a combination vehicle with a gross combined weight of more than 25,000kg.

About the Course

The Class 5 Licence can be a one-day course if you have evidence of good logbook skills and done Unit 24089 previously. Otherwise, it is a two-day Course.

The first day you will be instructed on the Class 5 and General Road Code for a couple of hours and when you are ready you then head down to the AA or VTNZ to sit the Class 5 Learner Licence. (You are not required to purchase a road code for this.) You will come back and will be trained and work through a workbook on your Class 5 Licence. (This is an open book as it is part of your learning process) and then you will sit the assessment test. (Closed Book).

If you are only doing one day, you will then be taken for a pre assessment drive which can take from 15 minutes to one hour depending on your experience. After that the assessor will take you for a practical drive. Once you have been found competent on the Assessment and Drive you will be given a Class 5 Licence Certificate to take to the AA or VTNZ. If you must do the Logbook Unit Standard there will be a second day, you will be put through the workbook and then there will be an Assessment test prior to the driving assessment.
